Carl Becker Sr. is the grandson of early American Violinmaker Herman Macklett. He was born in Chicago in 1887 and built his first violin in 1901. He worked for the firm of Lyon & Healy until 1908. He left to work for John Hornsteiner for the next fifteen years. In 1923, he began work with the William Lewis & Son firm and stayed for over 40 years. In 1969, he began his own shop where he worked with his son Carl F. Becker. His craftsmanship is exemplary. It features high quality wood and beautiful oil-based varnish.
