German bow maker Josef Gabriel completed his apprenticeship under Alfons Riedel in Bubenreuth and worked in his shop for five years before opening his own workshop in 1987. His bows are based upon the 19th and 20th century models of masters such as Lamy, Peccatte, Gaulard, and Sartory. He received a Gold Medal for a cello bow from the 1996 Violin Society of America competition, a Gold Medal for a viola bow at the 1993 competition in Mittenwald, and numerous other certificates and commendations. This bow features a round stick of pernambuco and sterling silver fittings.
