Originally an accomplished classical guitarist, French violin maker Nicolas Gilles studied at the Schools of Violin Making in Mirecourt, France and Newark, England before working in the shops of Charles Luc Hommel and Frederic Chaudiere. He established his own workshop in 2001 and has quickly risen to the level of the finest contemporary violin makers in France. Specializing in quartets of instruments, he has received two Gold Medals, six Silver Medals, and numerous certificates at international competitions by the Violin Society of America.
