The Ernest Heinrich Roth firm was one of the most prominent German firms in the early 20th century and was known for its variety of models based on those of Stradivari and Guarneri. At a time when many German makers falsified labels to pass off new instruments as antique, the Roth firm operated with transparency in the make and model of their instruments. Roth violins were played by performers such as Eugene Ysaÿe and Henri Marteau.
